Medical payments (MedPay)

Updated for plan year 2026

In plain terms

Medical payments to others (MedPay) is a small coverage (often $1,000 to $5,000) on renters and home policies that pays a guest's minor medical bills regardless of fault, with no lawsuit required. It is separate from, and much smaller than, your personal liability limit, and is meant to settle small injuries quickly.

A plain example

A visitor trips on your rug and needs a few hundred dollars of urgent care. MedPay covers it directly and neighborly, without anyone having to prove fault or file a liability claim.

Why it matters

MedPay handles small guest injuries before they can escalate into a larger liability dispute. It's inexpensive goodwill coverage that keeps minor mishaps from turning into claims.
